How to Celebrate the 2024 Lunar New Year

Usher in the Year of the Dragon with good eats and festivities.

Bring on the lion dances.

The Year of the Dragon is almost upon us. (There are already dragon-themed Lego sets for sale at Costco.) Herein, plenty of ways to celebrate. We'll do our best to keep this list updated as more events roll in.

Live Lunar New Year Celebration

February 3, 11am–6pm | Bellevue square

The Year of the Dragon roars in with a bang during a day of performances and demonstrations at Bellevue Square. Master Lei Zhou of Shaolin Kung Fu Academy kicks things off with a fiery dragon dance, then comes calligraphy and martial arts performances, music, and more.

Tết in Seattle

February 3 & 4, 11am–6pm | Seattle Center

Part of Seattle Center's ongoing Festál series, this celebration of Vietnamese culture ushers in the Year of the Dragon with lion dances, live performances, fashion shows, art exhibits, and plenty of food.

Lunar New Year Edmonds

February 10, noon–10pm | downtown edmonds

There are really three events going on all on the same day to celebrate the Year of the Dragon in Edmonds. First, a free community celebration at the Edmonds Center for the Arts, with performances from the Mak Fai Lion Dancers, Northwest Wushu Academy, and the Massive Monkees Breakdancing Crew. Then a screening of the film She Marches in Chinatown. All this followed by a community market, and then a ticketed event in the evening. 

Sammamish Lunar New Year Celebration

January 21, 1–4pm | Central Washington University Sammamish

It's Lunar New Year on the Eastside too. Martial arts performances, lion and dragon dances, food trucks, and activity booths for kids make this a family-focused affair.

Lucky Envelope Lunar New Year Festivities

February 8–19 | Lucky envelope brewing

Lucky Envelope is going big for the Lunar New Year, with everything from a running club event, to multiple makers popups, to a Kraken watch party. The big celebration will happen February 10, with food from Panda Dim Sum, and the debut of two new collaborative brews: Year of the Dragon Dragonfruit Wheat and Power and Elegance Oolong Lager. 

Lunar New Year Fair

February 3, 10am–3pm | Wing Luke Museum

After a lion dance welcomes in the Year of the Dragon, Wing Luke invites guests inside for themed crafts, calligraphy lessons, games, and other family activities. Heads-up though, this event is ticketed!

Lunar New Year

February 3, 2–4pm | Peter kirk community center

Kirkland Parks and Community Services presents an afternoon of cultural demonstrations, not to mention food and dancing, in honor of the Year of the Dragon. 

Lunar New Year Celebration

February 24, 10am–3pm | hing hay park

Head to the heart of Chinatown–International District for a whole day of festivities. A stage at Hing Hay Park showcases everything from taiko to martial arts demonstrations, while vendors and a food walk (starting at 11am) draw crowds clamoring for festive wares and all the dumplings.

PhinneyWood Lunar New Year Celebration

February 10, 2–5pm | Phinney center

Lantern making, a performance by LQ Lion Dance, and thundering drums from Seattle Kokon Taiko make up the sights and sounds of this afternoon event.

Lunar New Year Night Market

February 10, 5–11pm | Magnuson Park Hangar 30

Over 100 vendors and an AAPI small businesses popup showcase at this Lunar New Year iteration of Seattle's 21-and-up indoor night market. With dancing, a cocktail bar, food trucks, and a performance from Mak Fai Lion Dance, you know this is anything but your typical craft fair.

APCC Lunar New Year Celebration

February 24, 11am-6pm | Tacoma Dome

The Asia Pacific Cultural Center hosts its signature event at the Tacoma Dome, featuring more than 20 live performances, food vendors, crafts for sale, kids activities, and more. 

ICHS Lunar New Year 5K

February 25, 8am–noon | Shoreline Interurban Trail

Get moving and help fund free and low-cost health care. Registration fees for this 5K run/walk benefit International Community Health Services. All ages are welcome to participate in the fun run along the mostly flat Shoreline Interurban Trail, with Lunar New Year festivities kicking things off beforehand at Shoreline City Hall.
