Property Watch: Every Day Can Be a Wedding

A Puyallup-area farmhouse combines living space with a quaint event venue. Basically it's an HGTV series waiting to happen.

This foursquare-style farmhouse, built in 1902, is incredibly cute, as all the couples who have gotten married here would probably agree. the three-season event venue known simply as The Historic Farmhouse 14 has been the site of weddings, quinceańeras, and other outdoor events for up to 200 guests. It's located in the tiny town of McMillin, its 1.67 acres nestled within 120 acres of organic farmland—you get the pretty backdrop, but not all the agricultural labor that goes with it. The business, including all future bookings and a treasure trove of settings and decorations, is included in the sale price, and there’s plenty of room to live here, too.

Most of the Farmhouse’s event space is outdoors, so the pretty grounds are full of wide gathering fields as well as little landscaped corners. The most picturesque spaces are tucked inside trees beside and behind the  house. One vast lawn has a brick patio at the center and an outdoor bar; another area has a catering gazebo and a longer patio tucked between rows of trees. Another large field cuts out most of civilization, including the house itself. A well-manicured orchard offers a more intimate space.

Even the large circular driveway is surrounded by little pockets, including a fire pit area, a photoshoot-ready arbor, and the sweet wraparound porch, with a farmland view. The island at the driveway’s center holds a surprisingly sheltered little patio.

The interior has not been HGTV’d into a modern farmhouse; if anything, it leans into more of a distressed look. The lower level is currently part of the event space offering as a place for the bridal party, or whichever party needs the most space, to get ready, including a bridal room with a plush little built-in nap nook.

The rest of the home could function as a residence or a photography space; one bedroom is done up 100 percent in Christmas decor, and there’s a library with a sliding ladder. Much of the furniture, including the baby grand piano in the foyer, comes with the place—if you go on a tour, the stuff that isn’t staying is marked. The finished attic is a media room, complete with a projector.

Other structures on the property include a converted 1968 Crown bus—designed as a more masculine get-ready space—a garage for supply storage, and a two-bedroom second home, built in 1920. It’s not as done up as the main farmhouse, but it has a very cute wood stove and provides living space that isn't quite so public facing. It has a fully fenced yard to keep festive wedding guests out, too.
