Property Watch: This Ski Cabin Could Be Winter Party Central

Walk to Summit at Snoqualmie—then back for a night of hot tubbing and archery.

In the Northwest, woodsy cabins are useful year-round. But as we enter autumn, ski season is right around the corner. Many ski cabins boast a relatively easy 30-minute drive to the slopes, but this cute little number in Snoqualmie Pass is closer than most; it’s a 30-minute walk to Summit at Snoqualmie. If you don’t mind being in close quarters, the cabin could sleep several on its own, but with nearly a quarter of an acre to play with, this property could be party central all winter long.

The cabin's shape makes it look a little smaller than it actually is: It has a central octagon, turret-like roof, and tiny dormered wings at the front and back. The front wing is a foyer that looks like a tiny house from the outside, but quickly reveals a large central room. A built-in bench runs along one side of the entry, and a staircase to the upper floor along another.

The great room, coated in wood planks from floor to ceiling, is a full, open octagon. The kitchen, complete with a large oven and fridge, takes up one quadrant, and extends into a built-in banquette (currently doubling as storage, but seen in action the last time it was listed), sans table. Right now, the rest is staged with just an oversized chair and an electric stove-style fireplace, but has plenty of room for all kinds of configurations.

The opposite wing is a surprisingly modern full bathroom with plenty of storage and a washer and dryer—perfect after peeling off your base layers. Especially if you’re getting ready for another trip up the slopes the next day.

The top floor is nestled up in the roof and has a distinct peaked ceiling shape made more dramatic by exposed beams. Dormers on either side form little triangular cubbies. One holds the stairwell with a cute stained glass accent and leaves enough room for a cozy little windowed reading area. This level could probably use a little shoring up (the cabin was built in 1939, after all), but what a cool shape to work with!

Like any good apres-ski locale, the property has a hot tub—this one’s next to a fire pit area. Other perks include an archery range and a shed for storing all your gear.

Another bonus: Unlike many woodland cabins, this place has no homeowners’ association, or the special rules or dues that come along with them. So let your imagination run wild.
